Cosy games have become a safe little corner of the gaming world for women like us: over 40, juggling work, home, pets, family… and needing hobbies that don’t involve stress or timers.

2026 is shaping up beautifully for the genre, with new releases, sequels, and underrated gems that deserve more love.
So here are 30 cosy games to settle into in the new year, a mix of new releases and enduring favourites that I am planning to tick off my backlog in 2026.

- High Above: A small rooftop-building game about finding peace in the skies. Design and grow your perfect rooftop retreat, from vibrant Cuban courtyards to modern urban hideaways. Watch the world come to life around you, at your own pace, in your own little oasis.
- Hela: See the world through the eyes of a brave mouse in this enchanting 3D adventure. Explore breathtaking Scandinavian-inspired landscapes, solve puzzles, and be a force for good in a land where heartwarming storytelling and the beauty of nature intertwine.

Cosy Favourites Still Worth Playing

If you’ve not played these yet, 2026 is the perfect time. They’ve aged beautifully and are often discounted on Steam or Switch.
- Unpacking: Still unmatched in its ability to tell a life story through boxes and belongings.
- Dordogne: Hand-painted nostalgia, set in the French countryside — like a summer memory come to life.
- Spiritfarer Farewell Edition: Heartfelt, emotional, and pretty profound. You’ll cry and smile in equal measure.
- Coffee Talk Episode 2: Dust off your coffee machine and prepare your warmest smile to meet your customers again in the second episode of the much loved coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking sim.
- A Little to the Left: Perfect for when you crave a cosy puzzle game that has you sort, stack, and organize household items into pleasing arrangements. Watch out for a mischievous cat with an inclination for chaos, though.
- Mail Mole: A charming 3D platformer featuring Molty, the fastest delivery mole, in his quest to save Carrotland from disaster! Explore magical worlds, make new friends, race against Mecha-Moles, find collectibles, solve puzzles and deliver awesomeness to the end of the world!
- Lake: A slower pace of life set in 1986. Bonus: the protagonist is older! Deliver post, reconnect with old friends, and decide what “home” really means.
- Wylde Flowers: A cosy farming and witchcraft life sim with heart, inclusivity, and charm. Come to know and love the fully voice acted characters of Fairhaven, as you unravel a local mystery.
- Garden Galaxy: A soothing sandbox/idle game where you grow your own tiny garden.
- Bear and Breakfast: Run an inn in the woods as an anxious but loveable bear. What’s not to love?
Under-the-Radar Indie Gems

These might have slipped past you, but they’re perfect for quiet evenings.
- Naiad: Flow with Naiad across a mysterious river and interact with its fauna and flora to discover little secrets.
- Dorfromantik: A peaceful building strategy and puzzle game where you create a beautiful and ever-growing village landscape by placing tiles.
- Unbox the Room: Unbox the Room invites you to become an interior-designer helping clients settle into their new homes by unpacking their boxes and thoughtfully arranging their belongings.
- Grimshire: A deadly plague threatens the village of Grimshire. Manage your farmland, forage the bounty of the wilds, prevent your harvest from rotting away and keep the root cellar full. Gorgeous pixel art and spooky-cosy storytelling; if you like Graveyard Keeper, you’ll adore this.
- Ooblets: Dance-battling vegetable creatures. Need I say more?
- Littlewood: The world has already been saved. Now it’s time to rebuild your town, learn new hobbies, and forge lifelong friendships in this peaceful and relaxing RPG. A hidden gem that feels like Stardew after the adventure ends.
- The Stillness of the Wind: A quiet game of life and loss. One by one, everyone left the village for the city. Everyone, except Talma. Approaching her final years, she maintains a simple way of life tending to her homestead, surviving, subsisting, whilst increasingly disturbing letters arrive from her family in the city.
- Cozy Caravan: Head out on a gentle journey in your reliable old caravan, crafting hearty meals, running market stalls and sharing goodies with local townsfolk. Spread kindness, share, and help prepare for the annual Whizz Bang Fair!
- Garden Witch Life: After losing your job your life just took a whimsical turn. You’re now on a quest to create a magical food forest and make it a home for all kinds of adorable creatures. Mixed reviews on Steam for this one, so read up on it before you commit.
- A Short Hike: Hike, climb, and soar through the peaceful mountainside landscapes of Hawk Peak Provincial Park as you make your way to the summit. A cosy gaming classic!
